From the desk to the workbench

Mimmo Biafax – self-taught enthusiast of electric violin making
Between strings, wood and pixels, every guitar is a new adventure.

My name is Mimmo Biafax, I am almost 63 years old and, after forty years spent as an employee, I have rediscovered a passion that has ignited something new in my life: electric violin making.

I have no carpentry studies or experience as a craftsman. I started from scratch, driven only by the desire to build something with my own hands — and by the eternal charm of the electric guitar.

Armed with hobby tools, patience and lots of YouTube videos (with particular inspiration from Noe Hervas and other web masters), I transformed a corner of my garage into a small laboratory.
Here I made my first instruments, including:

  • a Stratocaster “negative” in mahogany with maple fingerboard,
  • a PRS style with flamed maple top and a long battle with epoxy resin,
  • a semi-acoustic ES-339 style, with a top decorated in antique gold leaf.

I like to think in a personal way: I do not chase industrial perfection, nor do I copy the big brands to the letter. I prefer to interpret, experiment, look for original solutions.

My tools were not born perfect — every inch gained was sweated out. But because of this, every mistake, every failed attempt, every success has taught me something that I can now share with those who want to embark on this journey.

This site, my ebooks and my projects were born with a simple purpose:
demonstrate that anyone, with the right passion and the desire to learn, can build their own electric guitar.

If I could do it, you can do it too.

Welcome to my world!
