Upgrading your pickups: 3 steps to a top sound.

How many times have we dreamed of that sound? The one we hear on a record, or the one that makes us vibrate when our favorite guitarist pulls it out of his amp. Maybe we already have a guitar we like, a body that resonates well, a comfortable neck, but there's always that "something" missing. That "je ne sais quoi" that makes us feel like our instrument isn't quite there yet. our at 100%.

Often, the culprit of this dissatisfaction is right there, under the ropes: the guitar pickup. It is the electrical heart of our instrument, the transducer that captures the vibrations of the strings and transforms them into a signal. And, believe me, change pickups it can be one of the most impactful modifications you can make. I learned this the hard way, after spending a lot of time and money on pedals and amplifiers, when the real bottleneck was right there, a few millimeters from the strings.nI'm not a luthier with a shop in the city center, you know. I'm someone who built and dismantled guitars in the garage, with the tools he had and the desire to understand. And I made mistakes, oh yes I did. I soldered badly, I bought pickups with the wrong poles, I assembled stuff that sounded worse than before. But every mistake was a piece of extra knowledge. And that's why today I tell you: if I succeeded, you can do it too.

In this article I don't promise you magic, but a clear path in 3 steps to upgrade guitar pickups and get the best out of your instrument. I will guide you step by step, with some tips I wish I had at the beginning, and I will help you avoid the most common pitfalls. Ready to get your hands dirty?nn
